Richard Sayer

I make stuff.

To me the creative process isn’t something I control per se, but allow. I write, paint, garden, assemble and photograph. I photograph a lot. I use my cell phone and its apps to make images as well as DSLR’s. I have shot a lot of film in the past and also done a great deal of digital manipulations.

Mostly I believe in telling stories. The work I do for the Meadville Tribune  is in many ways my favorite work, it’s a story that has a beginning and end and I then move on. In a day I can photograph a mundane situation followed by a tragedy and then have to rush to a ball game. It can be strange.

I am currently working on several bodies of work that include still-life, work with the figure, street photographs and I’m trying to learn to be a landscape photographer. I also run a small portrait studio. My work can be better seen by visiting :

I working on trying to consolidate them all into one, but there just aren’t enough hours in the day.

I don’t have any grand statements about my work. I believe in telling stories and always improving what I do. I believe in making pictures everyday and literally wake up thinking about pictures and go to bed thinking about pictures. I also post a lot on Facebook and love Instagram. I’m lucky to be able to make a living doing what I love to do. The work I show in this gallery is my ‘artwork’ or stuff I do that I don’t get paid to do!

Thanks for looking!
